Applying hand sanitizer properly is crucial for effective hand hygiene. The correct method involves rubbing hands together until they are completely dry. This process ensures that the hand sanitizer has sufficient time to kill germs and bacteria present on the skin. The friction created while rubbing the hands together helps distribute the sanitizer evenly and allows it to work effectively.

When applied correctly, the alcohol content in hand sanitizer is able to penetrate the cell walls of various pathogens, leading to their destruction. If hands are not rubbed together long enough or if the sanitizer dries too quickly, it may not achieve the desired antimicrobial effect.

The other methods mentioned do not support effective hand hygiene. For instance, applying a small amount and only rubbing briefly will not adequately cover all areas of the hands or allow enough time for the product to work.
